Spring is here. Your rankings should be blooming too.

Aaaaand we did a lot of spring cleaning in the app to shorten the time from insight to action for you.

We shipped 6 updates focused on one thing: closing the gap between knowing you have a visibility problem and actually fixing it.

Less clicking around. More doing. Faster wins.

🔥 TL;DR — What Matters Most This Month

  • Optimize from AI Tracker — go from “just cited” to top cited in a few clicks.
  • Workspace Permissions — keep client data siloed, contractors scoped, and your team sane.
  • New Content Editor Wizard — give AI tools the full context they need before writing begins, so every piece ranks, gets cited by LLMs, and sounds like you.
  • Looker Studio Integration: report your AI visibility right next to your revenue and GA4 data.

Is there more? Of course there is. But these will improve your workflow and results from day 0. See the full changelog →

If you do only one thing:

👉 Open AI Tracker, check if you have underperforming pages to optimize, then… optimize them! (duh)

Cited but not #1? Optimize Underperforming Pages Directly from AI Tracker

If your page is already cited by AI—but not ranking #1—you’re sitting on a missed opportunity.

Now you can fix that in seconds.

Filter by your domain in the Sources tab to see which pages are cited—and which need a boost.

If a cited page in AI Tracker isn't holding the top spot, you can now hit Optimize and jump straight into Content Editor. From there:

  • run Auto-Optimize for instant SERP + AI search improvements,
  • request and insert internal link recommendations

Why it matters

The rules of search haven't changed — only the format has. Just like users rarely scroll past the first few Google results, most people ask AI a question, get an answer, and trust the first 1-3 sources cited. The fourth and lower barely get a look (or don’t show up at all).

Your goal: own the #1–3 cited sources for your key topics. If you're not the primary source, being mentioned positively in that top tier is the next best thing. Everything below it is effectively invisible — just like the good ‘ol SERPs.

Secure your workspace with user permissions

Managing two domains is fine. Managing fifty — where writers, clients, and contractors all need different levels of access — is a security problem when everyone can see everything.

Workspace Permissions give Admins and Owners full control over who sees what:

  • Only Admins and Owners can see the “People” tab — this is where you manage user access per workspaces.
  • New workspaces start with Admins only — you hand-pick who joins.
  • Members only see the workspaces they're explicitly assigned to.
  • Removing someone from all workspaces automatically sets them to Inactive.

Why it matters

Managing a team shouldn’t feel like giving everyone the master key to your house.

Now it doesn’t.

Each person sees only what they need. Nothing more.

Write Better with new Content Editor Wizard

We've redesigned the content creation flow from the ground up, but the biggest shift isn't just the interface—it's what’s happening under the hood.

  • Total Transparency: Watch the research happen in real-time. See the SERPs, competitors, NLP entities, and AI answers calculated in real time, so you know exactly what’s driving every recommendation.
  • Automatic Personalization: Generic AI output happens when tools don't know enough about your brand. That’s why, now all our AI tools work with full brand context before they generate a single word.

Content Editor pulls in your Brand Knowledge automatically and suggests the right template based on what’s actually ranking. You specify tone of voice and custom instructions on the setup level. Only then, you pick the writing mode.

Why it matters

Because our AI has a clear playbook before it runs, the first draft is significantly sharper, brand-aligned, and structured exactly how SERPs and LLMs expect.

Whether you haven’t used Surfer AI or Surfy for a while or use them daily, give them a new try now and let me know how you like the difference.

New view in AI Visibility dashboard

We've redesigned the AI Tracker Overview so it's actionable from the first login and glance — no extensive analysys or weeks of historical data required.

The default view now shows a competitor visibility bar chart so you can see how your brand stacks up immediately.

Also, Topic-level insights replace individual prompt lists, grouping related queries into meaningful clusters so you can spot content gaps faster. When you do have historical data, toggle to the trend view. When you need granular detail, drill into individual prompts.

Why it matters

AI Tracker's job is to show you where you stand.

A new user shouldn't have to wait weeks before the dashboard feels worth checking. And a busy manager shouldn’t waste time clicking through reports to know their competitive position.

Clear competitive context on day one. No empty states.

Refreshed Surfer Navigation

We’ve rearranged the app to reflect exactly how you work, making it easier to switch between brands and dive straight into the actions that drive revenue. The goal? Less friction, more focus.

What's new:

  • A personalized dashboard that surfaces your clicks, AI Visibility Score, and competitor benchmark the moment you log in.
  • Quick start actions for your most common next steps.
  • Sectioned navigation — Content, AI Visibility, and More Tools — so SEO and AI visibility tools are no longer one undifferentiated list.
  • A persistent search bar (⌘K) always visible at the top.
  • Breadcrumb navigation so you always know where you are.
  • …and a collapsible Content Editor sidebar for distraction-free writing.

Why it matters

As you add domains, the app can start feeling like a cluttered desk. We've rebuilt Surfer's navigation from the ground up to separate your high-level business management from your daily AI SEO work.

Surfer x Looker Studio: AI Visibility in Your Reporting Stack

AI visibility data that lives in a separate tool is visibility data you can't defend to leadership. As promised in the last newsletter, we've brought Surfer's AI Tracker data — visibility score, mention rate, average position, source data — directly into Looker Studio.

API users can now blend AI search metrics with GA4, Google Ads, or CRM data to build live dashboards that treat AI visibility with the same strategic weight as traditional SERP rankings. No manual exports. No "data stitching." Just a live feedback loop between AI exposure and business outcomes.

Does AI More Strongly Recommend a Brand When More Cited Sources Mention It? (289,105 URLs Studied)

If you ask an AI assistant like ChatGPT for, say, the “best project management tool,” it’ll recommend a bunch of options in its generated response. One More Thing — Surfer Visibility Club: Warsaw Edition 🇵🇱

Earlier this month, we hosted the first-ever Surfer Visibility Club in Warsaw — a room full of marketing leaders, SEOs, and brand strategists talking about what AI search actually means for their work.

Now we’re thinking… where next?

👉 Tell us where we should host the next one.

PS. Serious suggestions only! And by serious I mean: cities with good coffee, obviously.

That’s a wrap for April!

If you're not on Surfer yet — or you've been on the fence about coming back — here's the number worth remembering: pages updated with Surfer are 25% more likely to be cited in AI answers. In 2025, Surfer users grew their AI visibility by 423% on average.

Those results? Still up for grabs.
