The Surfer API finally got a long-awaited refresh. The newest version brings the full power of the Content Editor to teams building on top of Surfer — including everything you can do in the setup, now accessible programmatically.

How does the new Surfer API work?

• Full Content Editor customization — brand knowledge, custom voice, templates, word count, custom instructions, detailed outlines — all are now configurable via API
• AI Search Content Score — the new unified AI SEO score and its guidelines are now available as an API endpoint
• LLM-specific documentation — new docs are written specifically for machine consumption, so your agents and integrations can work with Surfer without friction
• AI Tracker reporting — coming soon

Why does the new version of Surfer API matter?

The immediate benefit is obvious: new Surfer API allows you to automate your content workflow in ways you couldn’t before.

That said, this release is also the foundation for two things we're actively building: Surfer MCP and Agentic Surfy. No release dates yet — but they're in the works (and already looking amazing!).

How to access Surfer API?

To access Surfer API, you need an active subscription of the Peace of Mind or Enterprise plans. Upon activating your account, you need to request your API key in-app; go to Settings > API, and click “Contact Support” under Get your API key.

If your plan doesn’t have API access yet, your Organization Admin can upgrade to plan Peace of Mind or request Enterprise quote anytime via Settings > Your Subscription > Change plan.
