Surfer MCP is now in Beta, exposing Surfer's capabilities as tools any MCP-compatible AI agent (Claude, ChatGPT, and others) can call directly. Agents can now plan, generate, score, and optimize content end-to-end using live Surfer data — including the full Content Editor lifecycle, Auto-Optimize, SEO and AI Search guidelines, AI Tracker visibility data, and prioritized Recommendations, all grounded in your brand knowledge.

Last month we shipped the biggest API update in Surfer's history — and we told you it was the foundation for something bigger. This is the first piece of it.

Surfer MCP is now available in Beta.

How does Surfer MCP Beta work?

If you already work inside an AI agent — Claude, ChatGPT, or anything that speaks MCP — you know the friction. Your agent can draft, brainstorm, and plan, but the moment you need real SEO and AI Search data, you're back to copying context between tabs. The agent doesn't actually know what's ranking, what to optimize, or how your content scores.

Now it does.

Surfer MCP exposes Surfer's capabilities as tools your agent can call directly. That means an agent can plan a piece, generate it, score it, and improve it end to end — using live Surfer data, without you leaving the conversation.

What can Surfer MCP Beta do?

Here's what's connected today:

Content Editor — the full lifecycle. Your agent can create a draft, read and edit the body, rescore it, and manage outlines. It can generate a Surfer AI article, run Auto-Optimize to lift both your SEO and AI Search scores, and read or edit your SEO and AI Search guidelines. Content templates and custom voices are in there too.

AI Tracker — your AI-visibility data, agent-readable. Brand mentions, mention gap, tracked prompts, sources, and time series — so the agent can see who's getting cited and where you stand.

Recommendations — prioritized "optimize" suggestions for pages you already have, and "write" suggestions for new topics worth covering. Soon, the AI visibility recommendations from AI Tracker will be added too.

Workspace and brand knowledge — the agent works with the same brand context you've set up across your content, so what it produces sounds like you.

Why does Surfer MCP Beta matter?

Why this matters beyond convenience: the way people produce content is shifting from "open a tool" to "ask an agent." An agent that can reach Surfer's data is an agent that can make real optimization decisions — not generic ones. That's the difference between content an AI wrote and content an AI wrote well.

This is Beta, and we genuinely want your feedback. What's missing, what's clunky, what you wish it could do — tell us. Email Anna at annajagiello@surferseo.com and it goes straight to the team building it.

And yes, this is a step toward the bigger thing: an agentic Surfer experience where the platform doesn't just tell you what to fix — it does the work with you. No dates yet, but it's actively in progress.

Surfer MCP is being gradually rolled out to Pro, Peace of Mind, and Enterprise plans.
