The new Topical Map reads user intent, brand knowledge, and business context, and gives you detailed insights about every hub. In development now, and we're recruiting test users.

When you plan content hubs, building AI SEO authority is just one part of the equation. You also want to choose topics that make sense for your business. You need to satisfy your buyers’ needs and make the sale.

Surfer’s Topical Map has focused on the former so far. Now, we’re rebuilding it to also cover the latter.

The new Topical Map will give you a content action plan enhanced with user intent and your business context, not just keyword relationships. It’s a base for a fully fleshed content strategy, rooted in entity authority—how much search engines and AI systems trust your brand to be a good source on specific topics.

In case you’re still using the old Surfer view, switch to Branded Workspaces, especially if you juggle multiple brands. Set up your brand knowledge and view all of Surfer’s tools and features just for the brand you’re working with. No switching around.

What's different about the new Topical Map?

  • User intent: More info on why users are searching will let you judge which awareness stage each page belongs to and how it fits into your broader strategy.
  • Brand knowledge: The map reflects where your brand can realistically gain authority, using the context from your workspace.
  • Business context: The map will prioritize topics that matter for your business growth, not just visibility.
  • LLM insights: The old topical map focused on traditional SEO, but the new edition will place even more weight on AI visibility.
  • Explained hubs: Every hub comes with context. You can check what it covers, why it's here, and how it connects to the rest.

Why does a smarter Topical Map matter?

The new Topical Map can be used as-is, without any re-evaluations based on your business strategy.

Creating a content plan will get even easier and faster. With insights centered on entities authority, you’ll build visibility both for SEO and AI and become the source for your clients’ questions in even fewer, more precise moves.
