If you want better answers, you need to ask better questions.
The same applies to working with AI writing tools. The quality of the output will depend on the quality of your input.
So, you must be specific with your prompts!
To write this article, I analyzed over 55,000 Surfy AI writing prompts.
Surfy is an AI writing assistant, which you can find inside the Content Editor. It can help you with every aspect of writing top-notch content.
And it's one of my personal favourite features of Surfer. I've spent A LOT of time tweaking and retweaking Surfy prompts.
In this article, I'll share with you 8 Surfy use cases and AI prompt examples - all vetted by yours truly.
So let's get into it.
1. Write content
Okay, this is the most straightforward way to use Surfy.
Here's how I use Surfy to write content.
Explain in [insert the desired length] how to / what is [insert the concept].
Let's make it clear with an example.
And here are the results.
Fun fact: Surfy will also adapt to your tone of voice and formatting style.
As one user points out, that can really make your life easier.
2. Add examples
Examples make abstract ideas more tangible and relatable for your audience. They help connect the content to real-world scenarios.
Instead of spending hours finding relevant examples to add to your writing, you can ask Surfy the following:
Add a real-world example to illustrate the point. The example should be relevant to the audience and make the concept easier to understand.
3. Create tables
If you're working with any sort of data, you need to find better ways to organize it so readers can digest it at a glance.
We can all agree that doing this manually can be a tedious task.
Here's how I use Surfy to create tables for me.
I first paste the data into the Content Editor, and ask Surfy:
Convert the data into a well-structured table with [insert column and row number based on the provided categories].
Let's look at a concrete example. See how I have specified the number of columns and their names in the prompt, being specific about what I want.
And here are the results. A perfectly organized table.
4. Humanize AI text
While Surfer has a standalone AI humanizer tool, I often use Surfy for convenience.
This is the typical prompt, which includes some best practices for humanizing AI content.
Rewrite the text to make it sound more human. Use the active voice and personal pronouns like 'you' and 'we.' Avoid robotic or overly formal phrasing and ensure the text has a natural flow with varied sentence structure.
Now, let's look at it in practice, applied to an unedited ChatGPT paragraph. As you can see, the text contains common AI phrases such as "delve into" and "ever-changing landscape".
The Surfy edited paragraph maintains the context while making the content sound more natural.
You can use the same prompt to improve your writing, regardless of whether the text is AI-written or not.
5. Write compelling introductions and conclusions
I normally write the introduction and conclusion after I've completed the rest of the content, at which point it can happen that I'm a bit brain-dead.
That's why I rely on this prompt.
Write a short introduction for this article, no more than 120 words. Start with a hook that grabs the reader's attention such as one of the leading statistics from the content. Provide a brief overview of the topic, and set clear expectations for what will be covered. The tone should be engaging and informative, encouraging the reader to continue reading.
Here's an introduction output example.
You can tweak this prompt as you wish, for instance you may ask it to follow the AIDA or PAS model.
Same goes for the conclusion. A good conclusion should do more than recap your content, it should prompt them to take action.
Use this AI prompt to achieve that.
Summarize the key points of the article in no more than 90 words. Include a specific call to action, directing the reader to [insert action you want the reader to take].
In this example, I asked Surfy to include a call-to-action that encourages readers to book a photography class.
6. Write attention-grabbing headlines
A good headline can make or break your content. It can either convince users to click on your content or to ignore it.
You know the elements of a good headline, so make sure to add them to the AI prompt, like so:
Write a headline that starts with the main keyword, includes a number, and uses power words to grab attention. Ensure the headline promises a clear outcome or solution for the reader.
7. Write product descriptions
Yes, Surfy can help you with this as well.
Inside a related Content Editor, ask Surfy:
Write a compelling and detailed product description for [insert product name]. Highlight its key features, benefits, and unique selling points. Mention how it solves a problem or fulfills a need for the target customer. Be sure to emphasize any special offers, materials, or technology used in the product. The tone should be persuasive, clear, and professional, aimed at encouraging the reader to make a purchase. Include a strong call-to-action at the end. Keep it under [insert desired length].
You'll get a compelling product description that's also properly optimized for SEO.
8. Repurpose your content for socials
This is another not well-known use case of Surfy.
Finished writing your masterpiece content? You'll of course want as many people to read it.
Ask Surfy to write social media posts based on it. You can rely on this prompt.
Turn this into a [insert social media] post. Include an attention-grabbing hook, and end with a question or actionable prompt to encourage comments and shares.
As you can see, Surfy understood the assignment.
