Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the exam and how to take it?
The exam part should take no more than 30 minutes, although we recommend working at your own pace. There is also a practical task which will require you to write a text inside the Content Editor. Since some people work faster than others, we can’t estimate how long it will take you.

How many points do I need to get to pass the exam?
To pass the exam, you’d need to answer at least 25 out of 29 questions correctly (85% correct answers).
What are the rules for practical tasks?
The task is: write a piece of content – on a topic of your choice, and in any language – within Surfer’s Content Editor. Requirements: a) min. 1500 words; b) unique; c) make sense; d) min. 67 Content Score. Next, submit your article's shareable link to this form.
Only after passing the exam and submitting the practical task via the form your certificate submission will be evaluated.
Do I have to watch the Content Optimization Masterclass to take the skills test?
Nope! There are folks who have been using Surfer for years who would rather skip the course and try the exam! Keep in mind, however, that you’ll need to get at least 25 out of 29 to pass, and you will not be shown correct answers (no cheating! ;) ).
Is Surfer certification the same as Content Optimization Masterclass certification?
Nope!
Surfer certification focuses on your skills as a Surfer expert and can be passed only if you’ve been using Surfer for a while. This certification is free for anyone with an active Surfer subscription.
Content Optimization Masterclass certification focuses on your knowledge as a content and SEO expert. It can be passed only after taking the masterclass or if you have lots of experience in on-page SEO and are well-versed with current Google algorithm trends. This certification is available only to people with access to the Content Optimization Masterclass.
What happens after I pass?
You’ll wait up to a week for us to process your submission and practical task. Upon passing, you’ll receive your certificate via email (the same you used to sign up for this community). Important: we will use the name you provided in your community profile as the name for the certificate - make sure your profile is correctly filled out before attempting the exam!
Once you get your certificate, it’s time to celebrate - you can add “Surfer Certified” to your CV, LinkedIn profile, or email footer, download the certificate with your name on it, and, of course, brag to all your friends!
